Hafiz Saeed rebrands JuD under new name `TAJK’

Islamabad: Days after Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed was placed under house arrest and crackdown launched on his organisation’s activities, Saeed rebranded his terror outfit under the new name of ‘Tehreek Azadi Jammu and Kashmir’ (TAJK).

The TAJK banners have been displayed in Lahore and other cities and towns

Hafiz Saeed, who was the mastermind of Mumbai attack, had indicated about a week before his arrest that he might launch Tehreek Azadi Jammu and Kashmir to “expedite the freedom of Kashmir”.

The quick rebranding clearly indicates that Saeed had got a whiff of the official plans and had already worked out how to resurface and survive after the clampdown on his ostensible network of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), said sources.

Sources said that the JuD and FIF, the two organisations whose activities were curbed, started functioning under the name new of TAJK and were planning to organise events on February 5, which is observed as ‘Kashmir Day’ in Pakistan.

The TAJK banners have been displayed in Lahore and other cities and towns, sources added.

However, a police official said that the law enforcement agencies were keeping a close eye on the activities of Saeed’s network and appropriate action would be initiated in due course of time.
