TN Governor seeks ‘factual report’ of incidents in Assembly during trust vote

Chennai: After meeting DMK leaders and former chief minister O Panneerselvam, Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao directed the state Assembly secretary AMP Jamaludeen to send him “a factual report” of the “incidents” that occurred in the House during the motion for trust vote moved by the Edappadi K Palaniswami government on Saturday.

The Governor sought the report on Sunday before leaving for Mumbai

Sources in the Raj Bhavan said that the Governor sought the report on Sunday before leaving for Mumbai.

Earler in the day, Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao met with three groups of visitors at the Raj Bhavan.

The governor first met with a delegation led by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and thereafter with DMK Rajya Sabha members representing the party’s working president MK Stalin. And finally a rival faction of the AIADMK led by O Panneerselvam also called on the Governor.

Though Palaniswami termed his visit a courtesy call, the DMK delegation submitted a petition from Stalin appealing to the Governor to “nullify” the vote of confidence won by Palaniswami government.

It may be mentioned here that the state Assembly witnessed frequent disruptions and unruly scenes during the vote of confidence on Saturday as the Speaker refused to concede to the DMK and the OPS camp demand for secret ballot for the trust vote.

However, the trust vote was preceded by eviction of principal opposition DMK and walkout by its allies in protest.
