New Delhi: Amarinder Singh was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Punjab on Thursday.

The chief minister chose 10.16 am as the time for taking the oath

He was administered oath of office and secrecy by Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore at an impressive ceremony at the Punjab Raj Bhawan here.

This is the second time that Amarinder, 75, has become Chief Minister of the state. He earlier held the office from 2002 to 2007.

The chief minister chose 10.16 am as the time for taking the oath as it was considered auspicious.

Eight cabinet ministers were also sworn in after him.

Sworn in along with Amarinder were cabinet ministers Navjot SIngh Sidhu, Manpreet Badal, Brahm Mohindra, Charanjit Channi, Rana Gurjit and Tripat Bajwa; Aruna Choudhary and Razia Sultana were sworn in as ministers of state with independent charge.

Among those who gaced the occassion included Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were among the top Congress leaders who attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu was on Thursday inducted as a cabinet minister in the new Congress government.

However, Sidhu has not been designated as Deputy Chief Minister, as was being speculated in political circles.

Sidhu, who joined the Congress party in January, just days ahead of the February 4 assembly elections in Punjab, won the Amritsar-east assembly seat with a margin of over 42,000 votes.

Earlier on Sunday, Amarinder emphasized that the new government won’t go on any witch hunts.

“No vendetta politics no victimisation, if name comes in investigation we’ll see,” Amarinder said on being asked if action will be taken against Bikram Majithia, accused of running a drug mafia.
