Fierce encounter with Hizbul terrorists on in J&K’s Pulwama

Srinagar: A fierce gunfight broke out on Saturday evening between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

As the security forces closed on the hiding terrorists, they came under heavy automatic gunfire

As was witnessed earlier on a few occasions, local protesters clashed with the security forces to disrupt the operation but were chased away by the forces who were fully prepared to counter any such development, said a police official.

He said that to keep the situation under control, the district administration announced the clamping of curfew in the area. “Announcements were made through public address system about the imposition of curfew and clear warning issued to locals to remain indoor till the operation is over or else be prepared to face the consequences,” added the police official.

The police official said that on receiving specific information about the presence of some terrorists in the area, the security forces swung into action and surrounded Hafoo Nazneenpora village in Tral area.

“As the security forces closed on the hiding terrorists, they came under heavy automatic gunfire which was retaliated to and this triggered a fierce gunfight,” said the police official.

He said that some top Hizbul terrorists active in south Kashmir areas are among the trapped terrorists whose number is believed to be between three and four.

Till reports last came in, the operation against the terrorists was on with additional forces having reached the spot to plug all possible escape routes.
