Bengal not letting central schemes percolate down: Amit Shah

Siliguri: BJP chief Amit Shah on Tuesday alleged that the West Bengal government was not letting the benefits of central developmental schemes percolate down to the grassroots.

He said Bengal is becoming poorer day by day and had plunged into chaos due to the prevailing unemployment

“The Bengal government is not letting (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji’s schemes to percolate down to the grass roots. The (Pradhan Mantri) Ujjawala Yojana is working well in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. But we are facing difficulties in Bengal in delivering its benefits to the poor,” Shah said here.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said that the Mamata Banerjee government thought it will be able to stop Modi ji’s chariot in the eastern state.

“I want to tell Trinamool Congress leaders that the more they try to dominate, the more you carry out injustice, the lotus (BJP’s poll symbol) will bloom,” he told party workers in Naxalbari block in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district.

He said Bengal is becoming poorer day by day and had plunged into chaos due to the prevailing unemployment, violence and appeasement politics.

Describing Naxalbari as one of the last frontier villages in India, sharing borders with Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh, Shah asserted that the central government had been working to reach out to all such villages through its developmental programmes.

Shah on Tuesday kick-off his three-day political campaign in the state, holding booth-level public interactions and visiting some houses to interact with residents at Naxalbari, from where the Maoist movement in India was launched half a century back.

Shah is scheduled to visit Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s constituency Bhowanipore in south Kolkata on Wednesday.
