Mehbooba meets PM Modi, admits youths provoked from across the border

New Delhi: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said on Monday a conducive atmosphere was needed for restoring order in troubled Jammu and Kashmir, soon after she met Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the prevailing security situation in the state.

Mehbooba Mufti also came out strongly against stone-pelters and violent protesters

She said she was confident of finding a solution to the festering trouble in the Kashmir Valley

“We held discussions on various issues…the agenda of alliance between the PDP-BJP,” Mehbooba told reporters after the meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence.

She said her father, late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed “had given a road map” for lasting peace in the state.

“The only way out for a lasting solution is dialogue. We can’t be confronting our own people for too long. We cannot hold talks when on one side indulging in stone pelting and they countered with bullets,” she said.

She said that for a fruitful dialogue process to begin, there has to be a condusive atmosphere and for that violence needs to stop.

The J&K CM also stressed on the Prime Minister to compensate people of the state for the losses they have suffered due to the Indus Waters Treaty between India and Pakistan. “The prime Minister has assured that the issue will looked into.”

She said she was confident of finding a solution to the festering trouble in the Kashmir Valley.

In reply to a question on controlling the ongoing violence, she said, “I meeting of the Unified Command has been convened on Tuesday and there in that meeting a line of action would be discussed.”

She further said that there are people who are disillusioned and there are others who are being provoked from across the border.”All these aspects will be discussed in Tuesday’s meeting,” added the J&K chief minister.
