One terrorist arrested, CRPF jawan injured in Anantnag

Srinagar: Two armed terrorists barged into the office of the government treasury in Anantnag district of J&K on Friday and fired at the security forces injuring a CRPF trooper. However, one of the terrorists was overpowered by the CRPF, whereas the other one managed to escape.

According to a senior police official, the terrorists tried to snatch the weapon of a CRPF trooper but other security personnel managed to overpower one of them. The other one managed to escape after firing at a CRPF personnel, said the police official.

He said that the injured jawan has been taken to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.

“The entire area has been cordoned off and a massive search operation is on to nab the terrorists who managed to escape,” said the police official who added that the arrested terrorist is being interrogated by the security agencies.

Meanwhile, the Army on Friday resumed search operations in Kashmir’s Kupwara district for an injured terrorist who managed to escape after attacking the army camp in the district on Thursday morning.

In that pre-dawn attack, three soldiers were martyred during an hour-long gunfight with three terrorists of whom two were neutralised.

A senior police official said that the army resumed search operation in six villages around Panzgam army camp in Kupwara district to trace the terrorists who managed to escape.

Seven soldiers were injured in the attack five of whom were airlifted to army’s hospital in Srinagar.
