Terrorists attack with grenade killing policeman, injuring 11 others

Srinagar: Barely hours after prime minister exhorted youths from the Kashmir valley to shun violence to cherish the fruits of development, terrorists active in the valley attacked a security party with grenades, killing a policeman and injuring 11 other security personnel on Sunday evening.

Injured security personnel were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment

According to a senior police official, terrorists lobbed a grenade at a security force party in old city’s Nowhatta area at around 6.30 pm as they were withdrawing from the area after the day’s deployment.

In this latest attack by the terrorists, a police constable identified as Shamim Ahmed was killed and eleven other security personnel including eight policemen and three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured, said the police official.

He said that all the injured security personnel were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment where their condition is stated to be stable.

However, the entire area was immediately cordoned off and an extensive search operation was launched to nab the terrorists responsible for the act.

It may be mentioned here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the state to inaugurate the Nashri-Chenani tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
