Three die as truck ploughs into city centre in Stockholm, one arrested

Stockholm: A truck on Friday rammed into a store in the centre of the SWedish capital Stockholm, and police and witnesses said three people died and many others were injured. Later, the police arrested a person connected with the incident.

All Metro services in the Swedish capital city have been shut

“Sweden has been attacked. Everything indicates that this is a terror attack,” Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven told a press conference, Xinhua news agency reported.

The police have urged people to stay indoors, the SVT news reported, adding that the Parliament House has been cordoned off.

All Metro services in the Swedish capital city have been shut following the incident, Radio Sweden reported.

The truck involved in the incident was hijacked earlier Friday from outside a restaurant in central Stockholm, according to Radio Sweden.

Meanwhile, the police in Sweden have arrested a man in North Stockholm, who reportedly confessed to Friday’s deadly terror attack.

According to a report from the Aftonbladet, the unidentified man had some light injuries when he was taken into custody.

“One person has been arrested who may be connected with the incident,” the police was quoted as saying.

The police have confirmed that at least four people were killed in the attack. There were also at least 15 people wounded, nine of them seriously, after a hijacked beer truck was driven through a crowd in the centre of town. The truck stopped after crashing into a department store.

Following the attack, police released a photo of the man believed to have carried out the attack.

Swedish police have urged people to stay away from the area.
