Kashmiri Army officer’s bullet-riddled body found in J&K’s Shopian

Srinagar: The bullet-riddled body of an army officer was found early morning on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district.

According to a senior police official, the deceased was identified as Lieutenant Umar Fayaz of Kulgam (South Kashmir).

“The officer had been kidnapped by militants late on Tuesday evening from Kulgam town where he had gone to attend a family function,” a police officer said.

Born on June 8, 1994, Lt Umar was posted with 2 Rajputana Rifles in Akhnoor and was martyred by terrorists in Shopian last night,” a senior Army official said.

Fayaz was commissioned in the Indian Army in December 2016.

An advisory was earlier issued by the state police asking its personnel not to visit ancestral homes, especially in south Kashmir areas till it was withdrawn.

There has been a spike in terrorist activities in most districts of south Kashmir including, Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag and Kulgam.
