Security forces cordon 20 villages in J&K’s Shopian in search of terrorists

Srinagar: Amid frequent attacks by the terror groups active in the Kashmir valley that witnessed killing of five policemen besides three incidents of bank loots in just two days, the security forces on Thursday launched a massive anti-terrorist crackdown and cordoned off at least 20 villages in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A senior police official said that the security forces are on the look out for terrorists involved in recent terror attacks and bank loots.

He said that there has been huge deployment of forces that has launched a massive search operation in the area which is around 50 km from here.

The terrorists responsible for recent spurt in terror activities that included killing of political activists and security personnel and also snatching of weapons from security personnel, were being looked for, said the police official.

Besides launching the latest search operation to nab the terrorists, the police has also announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for anyone giving information leading to the arrest of Umar Majeed, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist operating in south Kashmir.

The police official said that the security forces have succeeded in identifying Majeed who is allegedly the terrorists primarily responsible for attacking a cash van in which seven people were killed including five policemen in Kulgam district on Monday.
