Two policemen, 2 civilians killed in terrorist attack in J&K’s Kulgam

Srinagar: Four people – two civilians and two policemen – were killed and three others injured in a terrorist attack on a police party clearing traffic in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday. On the other hand one terrorist was also killed in retaliatory action by the police.

A police party had proceeded to Mir Bazar area on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Kulgam to clear traffic after a road accident in the area when the attack occurred, said a police officer.

“Militants fired at the police party that was busy clearing traffic in the area. Four persons including two civilians and two policemen were killed in the attack,” the officer said, adding three persons were injured and have been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

In retaliatory firing by police, one of the terrorists was killed, while another was injured, said a senior police official.

The police official said that the terrorists were travelling in a car when they opened fire on the police team.

He said the police also managed to snatch a pistol from one of the terrorists involved in the attack.

The neutralised terrorist was carrying a grenade and some ammunition, said the police official adding that one terrorist managed to escape while another was injured whose blood trail is being followed by the security forces who have launched an intensive search operation to nab them.
