Pakistan shelling on LoC targeting civilian areas, woman injured

Jammu: Pakistan Army on Friday again violated the ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked firing at the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district in which a civilian was injured.

Besides injury to a woman, a water tanker was also hit by a shell fired from across the LoC

Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta said, “A 35-years-old woman identified as Naseem Akhtar was hit by a splinter in her shoulder during the ceasefire violation by Pakistan Army in the Bhimber Gali (BG) sector.”

Besides injury to a woman, a water tanker was also hit by a shell fired from across the LoC in Basooni village.

The defence spokesman, however clarified that firing and shelling was going on in BG sector which falls in part in both Rajouri and Poonch districts.

Mehta said Pakistan Army used small arms, mortars and automatics to fire at Indian positions in the BG sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that the shelling and firing started at 4.15 am. To this unprovoked Pakistan gggresion, the Indian Army has been responing strongly and effectively.

Meanwhile, authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar on Friday to prevent separatist-called protests.

The separatists have called for post Friday prayer protests in the Kashmir Valley against the US administration’s decision to declare Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Salahuddin a global terrorist.

The restrictions were imposed in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of five police stations — Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, MR Gunj and Safa Kadal, the police said.

Shops, public transport and other businesses remained shut in these areas.

Heavy deployments of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been made in sensitive areas of Srinagar and other districts, the police said.

Traffic movement was normal where there were no restrictions.

Inter district transport also moved as usual.
