Hizbul module busted in J&K’s Shopian, four arrested

Srinagar: A terror module was busted with the arrest of four over ground workers (OWG) of Pakistan based terror outfit Hizbul Mujaheddin in Sopian town of Baramulla district on Sunday.

The raids by the security forces were conducted late on Saturday night

According to a senior police official, the module was led by Hizbul commander Parvez Wani, a resident of Handwara.

The raids by the security forces were conducted late on Saturday night and three OGWs arrested. “Besides undertaking the task of recruiting locals for the Hizbul Mujaheddin terror outfit and subsequently sending them to Pakistan for training at terrorists camps operating in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, the arrested individuals were themselves involved in terror activities including the attack on SOG camp in the valley in June,” said the police official.

He said that among the arrested OGWs, one was a police constable, another was an employee of a bank and the third one was a teacher. “This in itself speaks volumes about the extent of radicalization of youths in the valley who were inclined to join terror outfits to carry out their subversive activities,” said the police official.

Among the arrested OGWs, one Abdul Rashid Bhat, visited Pakistan in May and obtained terror training in the Khalid Bin Waleed terrorist camp run by the Hizbul Mujaheddin in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

He said that the visa to Abdul Rashid Bhat was granted by the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi on the recommendation of a Hurriyat leader.

From the arrested terror operatives, large quantity of arms, ammunition and over Rs 1 lakh in cash was recovered, added the police official.
