NIA raids Jammu businessman for terror funding, summons Geelani’s son

Jammu: In the ongoing probe against terror funding in the Kashmir Valley, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday raided here the house of a businessman considered close to Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani.

Geelani’s son-in-law Altaf Ahmad Shah alias Funtoosh is presently in NIA remand

According to sources, the NIA carried out the raid at the residence of Devender Singh Behl in Baskshi Nagar area here.

Behl is an advocate by profession but is said to be involved in cross-LoC trade. “Evidences against Behl surfaced during the ongoing probe against individuals from the state of J&K who allegedly involved in terror funding and the current raid is being carried out in this connectiuon,” said an official.

Earlier, Geelani’s son-in-law Altaf Ahmad Shah alias Funtoosh is presently in NIA remand in connection with allegations of terror funding in the Kashmir Valley.

Six other separatist leaders are also on remand with the NIA for custodial interrogation in this case.

The NIA has also issued summons to Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s elder son Nayeem, asking him to appear before it for questioning on July 31 in connection with its probe in the terror funding case in the Kashmir Valley.

Nayeem is a surgeon by profession and had returned from Pakistan in 2010 after spending 11 years there.

He is tipped as the natural successor to the Geelani-led Tehrek-e-Hurriyat.
