Yet another infiltration bid foiled on LoC in Machil, terrorist killed

Srinagar: An infiltrating terrorists was killed by the security forces on the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday morning.

The operation against the intruding terrorists is still going on in the area

Defence Ministry spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that the troops monitoring the area noticed suspicious movement along the LoC and immediately challenged the intruders. “In the ensuing gun battle, one terrorist was killed,” said the defence spokesman.

“The operation against the intruding terrorists is still going on in the area,” he said.

The incident comes after an infiltration bid was foiled by the Army in the very same area on July 19.

This year, the Army has foiled a total of 22 infiltration bids along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, and 38 armed intruders have been eliminated till now.

Meanwhile, the J&K police on Sunday arrested three overground workers (OWGs) of terrorists in Srinagar and recovered an AK-47 rifle from their possession.

According to police sources, three OWGs of terrorists were arrested in Tengpora (Batmaloo) area of Srinagar city.

He said that the arrested OGWs were moving in a car when they were stopped at the check post and arrested with one AK-47 rifle from their possession.

It may be mentioned that that OWGs are those who facilitate terrorists in arranging hideouts for them, besides ferrying weapons and keeping an eye on movement of the security forces to sound alert to terrorists during crackdowns.
