Fierce encounter in J&K’s Pulwama underway, one terrorist killed

Srinagar: A fierce encounter has broken out between the security forces and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists on Sunday night in Samboora village of Pulwama district of South Kashmir.

According to latest information, one LeT terrorist has been gunned down. “Though the security forces comprising the 50 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Indian Army, the CRPF and the SOG of the state police have succeeded in killing on of the holed-up terrorist, there are at least one or two terrorist still hiding in the area and are engaged in a fierce exchange of fire,” said a police official.

He said that on receiving specific information about the presence of some terrorists in Samboora village, the security forces in a joint operation laid a cordon and search operations. “As the cordon was being laid, the hiding terrorists fired upon the security forces, triggering a fierce encounter in which one of the terrorists has been neutralised,” he said.

The police official said that as per the tip off, LeT terrorists, Ayoub Lelhari from Lelhar Pulwama and Rehman, were among those holed up at the encounter site.
