Police officer dead by terrorists in J&K’s Anantnag

Srinagar: Terrorists shot dead a police official in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag town on Monday and managed to escape from the site.

Intense search operation is underway to nab the terrorists responsible for the act

According to a police official, an assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI), Abdul Rashid was shot at from a close range by terrorists who after attacking the police official managed to escape.

He said that the injured ASI was immediately rushed to the district hospital in Anantnag where the doctors referred him to Srinagar. He succumbed to critical bullet injuries in a Srinagar hospital, the officer added.

Immediately after the terrorists attack, the security forces swung into action and have cordoned off the entire area.”Intense search operation is underway to nab the terrorists responsible for the act,” said the police official.

Meanwhile, Security forces surrounded six villages in Shopian district following information about the presence of some terrorists.

A senior police official said that searches were underway to locate and either nab or neutralise the terrorists.

“Till reports last came in, there has been no face-off between the security forces and the terrorists in the area,” said the police official.

It may be mentioned here that as part of an all-out operation against terrorists in south Kashmir, the security forces have been carrying out search operations in Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama districts in the last two months.
