Terrorists attack CRPF picket in Srinagar injuring a jawan, encounter underway

Srinagar: After an attack by terrorists on a security checkpoint on the city outskirts, the area from where the fire came has been cordoned off by the security forces on Saturday evening.

Firing exchanges between the security forces and terrorists are going on in the area

According to DIG CRPF, Sanjay Kumar, motorcycle borne terrorists fired at a security `naka’ at Nowhatta area, injuring a CRPF trooper who was hit by a bullet in his thigh. “The injured jawan was immediately rushed to the hospital where he is stated to be out of danger,” said the CRPF official.

He said that apart from firing by the motorcycle borne terrorists at the security personnel, a volley of bullets were also fired from a nearby house to facilitate the terrorists escape from the scene.

However, the security forces immediately swung into action and took position and retaliated. The area has been cordoned and all possible escape routes sealed to nab the terrorist, said a police official.

“Firing exchanges between the security forces and terrorists are going on in the area,” the police official added.

He further said that with reinforcements have been rushed to the spot, the entire area has been cordoned off. “There is little scope for the the terrorists responsible for the attack to escape and it is only a matter of time before they are either made to surrender or neutralised,” said the police official.
