Three terrorists killed in Kashmir’s Pulwama, encounter underway

Srinagar: Three terrorists were killed on Wednesday in a fierce gunfight with security forces in Tral area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The police official said that the gun battle began on Monday morning after the security forces comprising the Army, CRPF ans the SOG of the state police launched a search operation following a specific tip-off about the presence of terrorists in Bahmnoo area of Gulab Bagh village in terrorists infested Pulwama’s Tral.

He said that when the terrorists were challenged, they fired at the security forces, triggering an fierce encounter.

In the ongoing encounter, three terrorists have been killed.

The police official further said that in the ongoing fierce encounter, three soldiers including an officer were injured and shifted to hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.

He said that the three neutralised terrorists were identified as Zahid Bhat of Nowdal Tral, Mohammad Ishaq Bhat of Batagund Tral and Mohammad Ashraf Dar of Baghi Trich, all in Pulwama district.

A police statement said two AK-47 rifles and a pistol were found at the site.

Muhammad Ishaq Bhat was reportedly involved in firing on an attack on police personnel which seriously injured Head Constable Abdul Gani Bhat. He was also accused of thrashing and torturing some Special Police Officers at gunpoint and circulated the scenes on social media.

Zahid Bhat had earlier hurled a grenade on a CRPF team. “Both Ishaq and Zahid were involved in a firing incident at Tral market, resulting in injuries to three persons. They were also involved in various grenade attacks in south Kashmir.”

After the gun battle, a huge mob pelted stones at a security camp. The security forces opened fire, injuring a person who later succumbed to his injuries.

At least two more terrorists are reportedly hiding in the area. “A tight cordon is in place with all possible escape routes plugged,” said the police official adding that it was only a matter of time before the rest of the hiding terrorists were neutralised.
