Top LeT terrorist Abu Dujana, aide killed in encounter in J&K’s Pulwama

Srinagar: The security forces on Tuesday morning tasted a big success when they succeeded in killing Top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Abu Dujana, a Pakistan national, in a fierce gunfight in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Apart from Dujana, a local terrorists identified as Arif Dar of village Lalihaari was also killed in the operation.

The encounter took place in Hakripora village of Pulwama district.

A senior police official said that on receiving a specific intelligence input about the presence of Dujana and a few more terrorists in a house in the village Hakripora, the area was cordoned off by the security forces comprising the Rashtriya Rifle, the CRPF and the SOG of the state police at around 3.30 am. “Initially the the security cordon encompassed 15 odd house in the area and after scanning the first nine house, the security forces were greeted with a volley of gun fire from the tenth house,” said the police official.

To start with the security forces asked the house inmates to come out and surrender but they preferred to continue firing and this led to a fierce exchange of fire before the house was finally blown off by the security forces, the police official said.

He said that two houses in the village were destroyed in the operation but no civilian casualties were reported.

The security forces have officially declare that Dujana and his aide Arif have been neutralised.

There are reports of some minor protests in the area by the locals who as usual had been indulging in stone-pelting the hamper the search operation. However, there are adequate number of security deployment in place to keep the situation under control, said the police official.

The police official said that Dujana was wanted in over three dozen attacks on security forces and civilians and carried a reward of Rs 15 lakh. He was active in the valley for the last five years and had taken over the command of LeT in the area after the killing of LeT terrorists Abu Qasim.

There are also reports of Dujana joining hands with Zakir Musa, who off late broke out from his parent terror cadre Hizbul Mujahideen and was declared Al Qaeda chief in the area for establishing Islamic caliphate in the Kashmir valley.

Meanwhile State DGP SP Vaid said he would provide further details on the two terrorists only after the recovery of their bodies from the rubble of the demolished house where they were hiding.
