Two Army personnel martyred in terror J&K’s Shopian terror attack

Srinagar: Two Army personnel, including a major, were martyred and one other soldier injured during an encounter with terrorists in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday morning.

He said that the hiding terrorists opened fire after security forces approached the site

Police sources said militants ambushed an army patrol in Zaipora village.

Three soldiers including Major Kamlesh Pandey, Sepoy Tanzin and Sepoy Kripal Singh were injured in the attack.

“The injured were immediately airlifted to 92 base hospital in Badami Bagh cantonment area, where Major Pandey and Sepoy Tanzin later succumbed to their injuries,” sources said.

A police official said that acting on a tip off about the presence of terrorists in Matribugh Zoipora village of Shopian, a cordon-and-search operation was launched jointly by 62 RR of Army, Special Operations Group of state police and Central Reserve Police Force.

He said that the hiding terrorists opened fire after security forces approached the site.

As per latest reports, the encounter between the security forces and terrorists is currently underway and it is presumed that at least three to four terrorists are hiding in the area.

Earlier on Thursday, two terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in Gopalpora village of Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

One of the slain terrorists was involved in an attack on a bank cash van in the district on May 1 this year in which five policemen and two bank guards were killed, said a poilce official.

Two weapons with ammunition have been recovered by the security forces from the site of the encounter.
