Shots again fired in Shopian as two terrorists killed, one nabbed

Srinagar: The picture is more or less clear as not only two terrorists were neutralised in Saturday’s night encounter but also a terrorist surrendered before the security forces before the gun fight came to an end on Sunday morning in Shopian district.

It is still unclear as to whether a fresh encounter has broken out

According to a senior police official, shots were being fired again at the same place in Shopian district on Sunday where a fierce encounter had broken out.

The police official said that as searches were being conducted in the area on Sunday, shots were again heard in Barbugh village. “It is still unclear as to whether a fresh encounter has broken out,” said the police official.

On Saturday, two terrorists were killed and another arrested, with his weapon seized, in Barbugh following an attack on an army vehicle.

The encounter took place in Barbugh village of Shopian on Saturday night. The terrorists had holed up inside a house there.

Army officials identified the apprehended terrorist as 17-year-old Adil Hussein Dar, a resident of village Chatarpura of Shopian. According to sources, Dar surrendered.

Northern Command of Indian Army said in a Tweet: “Two terrorists killed and one terrorist surrendered in Shopian. Weapons and Ammunition recovered.”

One of the killed terrorists has been identified as Tariq Bhat of Barabug, Shopian. He belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen, said an official.
