Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists killed in Sopore, encounter underway

Srinagar: In an ongoing encounter, the security forces have killed two terrorists in Sopore district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Security forces swung into action and cordoned off the area

As per early information, both of the neutralised terrorists were members of terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

A senior police official said that on receiving information about the presence of terrorists in Shankar Gund area on the outskirts of Sopore town, the security forces swung into action and cordoned off the area and launched an intensive search operation.

The police official said that as the cordon was tightened, the hiding terrorists started firing at the security forces comprising the army, CRPF and the SOG of the state police, triggering a fierce encounter that resulted in killing of two terrorists.

Two Hizbul terrorists including its north Kashmir ‘Divisional Commander’ were killed in a gunfight with police and security forces in Sopore, a police statement later said.

The two terrorists killed in the gunfight were later identified as ‘Divisional Commander’ Pervaiz Ahmad Wani, resident of Galoora Handwara, and Naeem Ahmad Najar, a resident of Shelpora Brad, Sopore.

“Two AK rifles, three AK magazines, 90 AK rounds, an INSAS rifle, an INSAS magazine, 13 INSAS rounds and other ammunition was recovered from site,” the statement said.
