3rd Test: Air pollution briefly halts play

New Delhi: The second session of the third and final Test match between India and Sri Lanka was halted for few minutes due after concerns over the poor air quality here on Sunday, prompting Lankans to wear anti-pollution masks.

Umpires, Nigel Llong and Joel Wilson were involved in an animated conversation with Chandimal

The visiting Sri Lanka players wore masks while fielding after the lunch session on the second day at the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium.

As Delhi air quality deteriorated and it became hazy just after the lunch, umpires discussed the issue with the players and the match was halted for around 15 minutes.

Both the umpires, Nigel Llong and Joel Wilson were involved in an animated conversation with Chandimal.

The team physio was seen in conversation with David Boon, the match referee, who eventually asked play to be continued.

Gamage however, went off the field after the 125th over. Shortly afterward, Lakmal too went off.

The entire incident however, was a blessing in disguise for Sri Lanka as those abrupt intervals resulted in the wickets of R Ashwin and Virat Kohli in quick succession.
