Fierce gunfight on with terrorists in J&K’s Rajouri district

Jammu: A fierce gunfight started early on Wednesday morning between the security forces and a group of terrorists in Sunderbani area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.

The terrorist were planning for multiple attack on defence installation in Sunderbani

According to a senior police official, the security forces had a few days back notices some suspicious movement in the area. “We were on a high alert to track down these elements feared to be a group of terrorists on the look out for an opportunity to strike at our security establishments,” said a police official.

The police official also said that the suspicious movements were first noticed by the sentry of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battalion headquarters in the area who fired in the air.

“Immediately after that the army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police started a search operation in which the hiding terrorists were spotted,” police said.

He said that as the security forces closed in, the hiding terrorists resorted to indiscriminate firing. “This trigerred a fierce encounter which continues till reports last came in.”

The police official said that the terrorist were planning for multiple attack on defence installation in Sunderbani but their plans were foiled by the alert troops.

Meanwhile, the security forces have recovered three bags of explosives including IEDs outside a paramilitary camp in Rajouri district’s Sunderbani where schools have been ordered to be closed by the district administration as a precautionary measure.

On the other hand, after a lull of ten days, Pakistan army yet again violated the ceasefire by targeting Indian positions in Poonch districts.

A Defence Ministry official said the Pakistan army started shelling and firing at Indian positions in Khari Karmara area of the LoC in Poonch district.

“Pakistan firing started at 8.30 pm yesterday (Tuesday) and continued for nearly half an hour. Our troops retaliated effectively and strongly”, the official said.
