Two terrorists killed, three policemen injured in Srinagar encounter

Srinagar: In a day-long operation by the security forces, two terrorists were gunned down on Thursday.

The terrorists fled and took shelter in Balhama village

However, in the said encounter that broke out on the outskirts of the city after a BJP leader was attacked, three policemen including an SHO got injured, said the police.

A senior police official said that two terrorists were killed and three policemen including a station house officer (SHO) injured in the gunfight between the security forces and hiding terrorists in Balhama area of Khonmoh in outskirts of Srinagar.

The encounter broke out following terrorist attack on BJP leader, Muhammad Anwar Khan in which his security guard Bilal Ahmad was injured.

After attacking the BJP leader, the terrorists fled and took shelter in Balhama village.

The alert security forces immediately swung into action and surrounded the village and a gunfight started there after, said the police official.

He said that four houses were damaged in the gunfight.

The police official said that the firing exchanges have now stopped and searches were on in the area.

Authorities also announced suspension of rail service between Baramulla and Bannihal towns on Friday as a precautionary measure after intense clashes erupted between a stone pelting mob and the security forces at the encounter site.
