Stone-pelters attack CRPF vehicle in J&K’s Anantnag, two jawans killed

Srinagar: Two CRPF personnel of 164 Battalion lost their lives when their motorcycle was hit by CRPF truck after the driver lost control of the vehicle which came under stone pelting from locals in Hiller area in Kokernag of South Kashmir’s Anantnag districton Wednesday.

Reinforcement was rushed to the spot to maintain law and order

However, as per the state police FIR, there was no mention of stone-pelting and instead stated that the driver of the para-military truck losing control and hit the bikers who succumbed to their injuries.

According to reports, the unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday evening when CRPF troops were withdrawing after a daylong law and order duty in the area.

According to the police, the driver of the CRPF armoured vehicle was pelted stones in the area, 85 kilometres from here, during the withdrawal operation in the evening.

The driver, identified as Roop Singh, lost control of the vehicle and hit a motorcycle on which two CRPF jawans – Riyaz Ahmed Wani and Nissar Ahmed Wani – were riding, said a police official. Both were locals, said a police official.

Both of the injured CRPF jawans were rushed to a hospital where they were declared brought dead.

The driver of the armoured vehicle has been hit in his head and rushed to an Army hospital in Srinagar where his condition is stated to be serious after undergoing surgery.

A senior police official said that reinforcement was rushed to the spot to maintain law and order.
