45 killed, 11 injured in Uttarakhand bus accident

Dehradun: What could be termed as the worst bus accidents in the history of Uttarakhand, at least 47 people were killed and 11 others injured when a private bus they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Dhumakot tehsil of Pauri district on Sunday

A chopper was rushed to airlift the critically injured passengers

According to the police, the accident took place at about 9 am, near the Queens Bridge on the Pipli-Bhaun road when the driver lost control of the 28-seater bus which was headed to Ramnagar from Bhaun

The injured people were rushed to nearby medical facilities out of which four were in “very critical” condition who were airlifted to Dehradun.

Inspector General of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Sanjay Gunjial has informed that a chopper was rushed to airlift the critically injured passengers.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed grief over the death of 45 people who were killed after a bus fell into a gorge in Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district.

“Extremely saddened by the bus accident in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a tweet.

“I pray the injured recover at the earliest. Rescue operations are underway and authorities are providing all possible assistance at the accident site.”
