Security forces kill 3 terrorists in a fierce encounter in J&K’s Shopian

Srinagar: Three terrorists were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

Two soldiers including a JCO were also injured in the fierce encounter that continued for over seven hours. The injured army personnel were shifted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital here where condition of one of them is state to be serious.

According to a senior police official, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the village early on Tuesday morning following specific information about the presence of some terrorists terrorists in Kundullan village of the district.

He said that as the security cordon was tightened, the hiding terrorists fired at the security forces to break free and escape.

However, the firing by the hiding terrorists triggered and encounter that lasted for over seven hours during which three terrorists were killed, said the police official adding that the bodies of the two neutralised terrorists have been recovered.

One of the slain terrorists was identified as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh of Shopian district while the security forces believe that the other dead militant could be a foreigner.

The police official said that the locals tried to disrupt the encounter by resorting to heavy stone pelting. To keep the locals away from the encounter site, the security forces used mild force in which three civilians hurt.

According to information, the father of one of the terrorists killed in the encounter, died of shock after hearing that his son was trapped in the hideout.

Muhammad Ishaq Naikoo, the father of terrorist Zeenat, who had just joined the terrorist ranks, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. Naikoo suffered cardiac arrest.

Though the encounter has come to end, search operation in the area by the security forces were still on, said the police official.

Meanwhile, a youth injured in clashes with the security forces near the encounter site succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Police identified him as Tamsheel Ahmad Khan of Vehil village.
