Both the terrorists were nabbed in a joint operation by the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police and the West Bengal Police, said an official.

The two arrested terrorists have been identified as Musharraf Hussain and Rubel Ahmed.

A police official involved in the operation said that they were planning to carry out a major terror strike in the national capital.

In view of intelligence inputs about possible terror attack, security has been tightened in and around the national capital ahead of Independence Day on August 15.

Sources in the security establishment said that during interrorgation of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists Syed Muneer-ul-Hassan Qadri, Ashiq Baba and Tariq Ahmad Dar, who were recently arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for their role in the Nagrota Army camp attack in 2016 that killed seven Indian soldiers, it was revealed that the Pakistan based terror outfit JeM had been planning to carry out terror attack ahead of independence day.

It is learnt that during interrogation, the NIA came to know about the terror plot being hatched by JeM. “This Pak based terror outfit has been sending its trained agents, which included misguided Kashmiri youth, under various garbs such as plumbers and other type of menial workers to carry out the attack,” said sources.

The police official said that the arrested Bangladeshi terrorists were being interrogated by the intelligence sleuths.
