Two CRPF personnel martyred in J&K’s Anantnag, LeT claims responsibility

Srinagar: Two CRPF personnel were martyred and one injured in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.

Security forces cordoned off the entire area and a search operation has been launched to track down the terrorists

According to a police official, a civilian was also injured when terrorists opened fire on a CRPF picket, deployed on law and order duty at Achabal Chowk in Anantnag.

After firing at the security personnel, the terrorists managed to escape for the site, said the police official.

Among the two CRPF personnel killed were assistant sub-inspector Meena and constable Sandeep.

Immediately after the incident, the security forces cordoned off the entire area and a search operation has been launched to track down the terrorists.

Meanwhile, Pakistan based terrorist outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

On the other hand, two Border Security Force (BSF) troopers and a civilian were arrested in Anantnag district after a foiled weapon snatching attempt.

One, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, was arrested from Anantnag town after he tried to snatch away a private security guard’s weapon late on Thursday from outside a protected Gujjar leader’s house.

On Bhat’s interrogation it was found that he was working with the BSF troopers.

“The arrested civilian revealed that he is working as a source for the BSF and that he tried to snatch the weapon at the behest of two troopers who were waiting for him in a car outside,” said a police official.

“Acting swiftly, police was able to arrest the two BSF personnel. An FIR has been lodged and investigations started.

Further investigations were in progress.
