Two LeT terrorists killed in J&K’s Anantnag encounter

Srinagar: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were gunned down by security forces in a fierce encounter in South Kahsmir’s Anantnag districts on Wednesday.

The police official said that the encounter has ended but searches were still going on

A senior police official said that on receiving specific information about presence of some terrorists in Kotwal Mohalla, the security forces surrounded the area late on Tuesday night.

He said that on Wednesday morning the civilians were evacuated from the densely populated neighbourhood before the flushing out of the terrorists was undertaken.

The police official said that the encounter started after the hiding terrorists fired at the security forces triggering a fierce gunfight.

When the firing stopped, two bodies of slain terrorists were recovered from the encounter site.

The police official said that the encounter has ended but searches were still going on.

He also said that the identity of the neutralised terrorists from who large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered, is still to be established.

Meanwhile, in a separate encounter, some terrorists were engaged in an exchange of fire with security forces in Keran sector along the Line of Control in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Till reports last came in, encounter between the security forces and the terrorists was on and further details were awaited.
