Four terrorists gunned down in J&K’s kulgam as operation continues

Srinagar: Security forces on Sunday succeeded in killing at least four terrorists in an ongoing encounter in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Till reports last came in, bodies of four terrorists were recovered from the encounter site

The in an overnight operation began after the security forces launched a cordon and search operation following tip off about presence of some terrorists in Batagund village of the district, said a police official.

He said that the security forces comprising the Rashtriya Rifles, special operations group (SOG) of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) acted swiftly after receiving information on Saturday evening that a group of terrorists were hiding in the area.

The police official said that sensing trouble after being trapped, the hiding terrorists resorted to indiscriminate firing to break the security cordon and escape.

The police official said that till reports last came in, bodies of four terrorists were recovered from the encounter site along with large quantity of arms and ammunition.

However, searches were still on as the security forces suspect that there were two to three more terrorists holed up in the area and efforts are on to flush them out, added the police official.

The security forces are also trying to ascertain the identities of the slain terrorists as clashes have broken out between protesters and the security forces near the encounter site, the police official further said.
