Three terrorists including Zakir Moosa’s deputy killed in two J&K encounters

Srinagar: What could be viewed as a major success for the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, one of top terrorist Zakir Moosa’s deputy Shakir Dar was gunned down in a fierce encounter on Tuesday in Tral area of Pulwama district.

Moosa, who heads J&K-based Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind terror outfit, had been involved in a number of terror related activities in the Kashmir valley and advocates for establishing caliphate in the valley. Moosa’s close-aide Shakir Dar was neutralised by the security forces after a fierce encounter, said a police official.

The police official said that on receiving specific information about presence of some terrorists, the security forces swung into action and laid a cordon and search operation in the Hafoo area of Tral. “As the security cordon tightened, the hiding terrorists fired at the security forces that resulted in a gunfight in which Dar was killed,” said the police official.

As per latest reports, the exchange of fire has stopped and search operation was still on in the area.

Large quantity of arms and ammunition along with some documents have been recovered from the encounter site, added the police official.

Meanwhile, in a separate encounter in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, two terrorists were killed by the security forces following a brief encounter.

However, a soldier of the Rashtriya Rifles was also martyred, while two jawans of 163 battalion of CRPF were injured in the encounter in Redwani village of Kulgam.

Sources in the police said that the identities of the slain terrorists were being ascertained. However, the neutralised terrorists belonged to Pakistan based terror outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba.
