Two terrorists including a Pakistani killed in J&K’s Budgam encounter

Srinagar: A day after the security forces succeeded in killing JeM terror group chief Maulana Masood Azhar’s nephew along with another local terrorist in Tral, two terrorists were gunned down on Thursday in a fierce encounter in Kashmir’s Badgam district.

Giving this information, a police official said that on receiving information about the presence of some terrorists in Bugoo village in Arizal area, the security forces swung into action and started a cordon and search operation.

“As the security cordon tightened, the hiding terrorists fired at the security forces triggering a fierce encounter,” said the police official.

He said that in a brief exchange of fire at least two terrorists were eliminated.

A soldier was also injured in the gun battle.

Commanding Officer, 53 Rashtriya Rifles, Colonel AK Nair said, “We have been tracking this group for some time, they were here probably to create unrest for upcoming Panchayat elections. We have recovered two-AK 47s and one pistol.”

Sources even claimed that one more M-4 carbine was recovered from the encounter site.

Police said in a statement that the dead terrorists in Bugoo village in Arizal area of Badgam were identified as Mukhtar Ahmad of Badgam and Muhammad Amin Mir of Pampore.

Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site. “They were both involved in a series of attacks on security establishments,” the statement said.

Besides arms and ammunition, incriminating materials have been recovered from the encounter site.

The police official said that the encounter has stopped but the locals have been requested not to venture inside the encounter zone as it can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.

Meanwhile, stone pelters did tried to thwart the operation but were effectively driven away from the encounter site where teargas shells were fired to disperse the locals including some women who joined the pelters in a bid to create hurdle during the encounter, added the police official.
