Two terrorists killed in J&K’s Shopian encounter; Terrorists abduct youth

Srinagar: Two Al-Badr group terrorists were gunned down in an encounter early on Sunday morning in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

In the ensuing encounter, the two hiding terrorists were killed

Both of the neuatralised terrorists were responsible for a number of attacks on security forces besides committing atrocities on locals, said a police official giving details of the encounter.

He said that on receiving information about presence of some terrorists in a house in Rebon village, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation late on Saturday night. “As the security cordon tightened, the hiding terrorists fired at the security forces in which a CRPF personnel was injured,” said the police official.

However, in the ensuing encounter, the two hiding terrorists were killed, said the police official.

The police official said that large quantity of arms and ammunition, besides incriminating material was recovered from the encounter site.

Meanwhile, hours after the encounter, terrorists abducted yet another youth from Shopian district.

The abducted youth has been identified as Suhail Ahmad Ganai. He was abducted from Meemander village, said the police official adding that a search operation has been launched to free the youth from the clutches of the terrorists who carried out the abduction on the suspicion of he being a police informer.

The police official said that targeting of youths clearly indicate that the terrorism in the valley has been fast loosing ground.
