Violence over cow slaughter: Police inspector killed in UP’s Bulandshahr

Lucknow: A police inspector was killed in Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday after violence broke out in the aftermath of an alleged case of cow slaughter, police said.

Senior police officials have rushed to the crime scene to contain the violence, which threatens peace in the entire region.

According to information here, members of the majority community with an alleged cow carcass gathered on the Bulandshahr-Syana road and pelted stones at the police personnel.

The agitated group also vandalized vehicles and attacked police officials and also torched several passing vehicles.

In the violence, Inspector Subodh Singh of Syana police station and four constables were injured. The profusely bleeding inspector was rushed to the Aurangabad community health centre (CHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

District Magistrate Anuj Jha confirmed the death of the police officer.

ADG (Law&Order) said that the situation in the area has been brought under control with senior officials having reached the spot.
