Security forces kill two terrorist in ongoing J&K’s Anantnag encounter

Srinagar: In an ongoing gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kazhwan forest area near Khundru in Anantnag in South Kashmir on Tuesday, at least two terrorists were killed. There are more terrorists likely to have been trapped in the area.

Authorities have suspended mobile Internet facility in the district as a precautionary measure

According to a senior police official, the encounter took place in the forests of Kazhwan as the security forces were flushing out the hiding terrorists.

He said that the bodies of the neutralised terrorists have been recovered along with arms and ammunition. Their exact identity is yet to be established, added the police official.

Exchange of fire is currently underway. Additional forces have been rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon and prevent the terrorists from escaping.

Earlier, the gun battle started during a search and cordon operation launched on specific inputs. The forces sealed all exit points to ensure the terrorists did not escape. As the cordon tightened the terrorists fired at the security personnel triggering the encounter, said the police official.

Authorities have suspended mobile Internet facility in the district as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said on Tuesday that with the killing of Zakir Musa, the new idea of terrorism had ended in Kashmir.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of his visit to Poonch district of Jammu region, the officer termed Zakir Musa’s killing a big success for the security forces.

“He tried to start a new idea of militancy in Kashmir but his idea has come to an end with his death,” Singh said.

He said there were still 275 active terrorists in the Kashmir Valley, out of which majority were foreign terrorists.

He said all the security forces were working in complete synergy in their fight against terrorism in the state.
