Security forces killed Zakir Musa in J&K’s Pulwama encounter

Srinagar: The Kashmir Valley’s most wanted terrorist, Zakir Musa, who headed the Al Qaeda affiliate Ansar Gazwatul Hind, was killed on Thursday by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Sources in the police said that on receiving tip off about presence of some terrorists, the security forces started a cordon and search operation in Dadsara village of Tral area.

Sources said that initially efforts were made to get the trapped terrorists surrender but the hiding terrorists resorted to firing and hurled grenades, triggering an encounter in which one of the neutralised terrorists was identified as Zakir Musa who had joined terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen in 2013.

The killing of Zakir Musa is seen as a big success for the security forces in their anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir valley.

As a precautionary measure, the authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in Awantipora area of Pulwama. Besides that the authorities have also ordered closure of all schools and colleges in the Kashmir Valley on Friday.
