One terrorist killed in J&K’s Pulwama encounter

Srinagar: Security forces on Thursday succeeded in killing a terrorist in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

According to a police official, the encounter took place in Panjran village of Lassipora area of Pulwama district. “A terrorist’s body has been recovered while his exact identity is being ascertained”, said the police official adding that the operation against the terrorists was still on.

He said that on receiving specific information about the presence of some terrorists in the village, the security forces started a cordon and search operation. “As the security cordon tightened, the hiding terrorists opened fire at the security forces to break the cordon and escape but in the retaliatory fire on terrorists has been neutralised with encounter still on,” said the police official.

He said that as a precautionary measure, the authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Pulwama.

On the other hand, A Territorial Army jawan was shot dead by some unidentified terrorists at his residence in Anantnag district on Thursday.

A senior police official said that terrorists barged into the house of Manzoor Ahmad Beg and opened indiscriminate fire, leaving the soldier critically injured and soon fled from the spot.

The injured soldier was rushed to Anantnag district hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Manzoor, who was posted with Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles in Shopian and was on leave to celebrate Eid with his family.

Immediately after the attack, security forces rushed to the spot and the entire area was cordoned off.

A manhunt was also launched to nab or neutralise the terrorists responsible for the act.

Meanwhile, two special police officers (SPOs) went missing along with their weapons on Thursday from the police lines area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said.

The missing SPOs have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar and Sulaiman Ahmad Khan.

An FIR has been registered and a manhunt started to trace them, police sources said.
