Terrorist, overground killed by security forces in J&K’s Shopian encounter

Srinagar: Security forces on Monday morning killed a terrorists and an overground worker (OGW) of terrorists in a brief encounter on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district.

As a precautionary measure, Mobile Internet services have been suspended in Kulgam district

A senior police official said that a patrol party of the Rashtriya Rifles was fired upon by terrorists travelling in a vehicle in Chitragam village of Shopian district. The fire was returned resulting in a brief encounter in which one terrorist and an OGW were killed, said the police official.

He said that the neutralised terrorists has been identified as Firdous Ahmad Bhat and the OGW as Sajad Ahmad Dar. They both were from Kulgam district, said the police official.

It is still to be ascertained as to which group of terror outfit, the slain terrorist and the OGW were associated with, added the police official.

Here it may be mentioned that the overground workers of terror outfits operating in the Kashmir valley are their eyes and ears. They keep a close watch on the movement of security forces, besides arranging hideouts for terrorists and also provide other logistic support to them, said sources.

As a precautionary measure, Mobile Internet services have been suspended in Kulgam district.
