Security forces kill a terrorists in J&K’s Shopian

Srinagar: Security forces on Firday killed a terrorist in an encounter in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The body of the neutralised terrorist has been recovered

According to a police official, on receiving a tip off, the security forces comprising Army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Central Reserve Police Force and Special Operations Group of the state police launched a cordon and search operation in Batpora-Narwani area of Imam Sahib in District Shopian.

“As the security cordon tightened, the terrorists hiding in an apple orchard resorted to firing to break the security cordon and escape but in the retaliatory fire by the forces, one terrorists was killed,” said the police official adding that two to three terrorists managed to escape but a search operation was on to nab or neutralise them as well.

The body of the neutralised terrorist has been recovered and efforts were on to ascertain his identity and affiliation.

The police official said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.

Locals have been asked to keep away from the encounter zone until the area is fully sanitized and all explosive materials are cleared off, said the official.
