Army jawan injured in ongoing encounter with terrorists in J&K’s Tral

Srinagar: An army jawan sustained bullet injuries in the ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Tral area of south Kashmir on Saturday.

The exchange of firing was going on when last reports came in

According to the police, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Awantipora area of Pulwama district following a cordon and search operation in the Hari-Pari area of Tral by the security forces in the wee hours of Saturday.

As the security cordon tightened, the hiding terrorists fired, triggering an encounter.

Sources in the police said that a JeM commander along with two other terrorists are believed to have been trapped in the area.

The Jaish commander has been identified as Qari Yasir, and is believed to be the hand behind the preparations of Fidayeen squad for the terrorist outfit.

Meanwhile, the Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the development and tweeted, “#Encounter has started at #Awantipora. #Police & security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice.”

In another development, at least seven over-ground-worker (OGW) associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were arrested in a joint operation by the Bandipora Police and 13RR.

The police recovered arms and ammunition from the possession on the arrested OGWs.

According to reports, two wireless sets, six grenades, 2 UBGL throwers, 10 AK-47 magzines, 512 AK47 rounds and 2 pistols were recovered by the police.
