Mating dance of Himalayan Monal mesmerise netizens

New Delhi: An adorable video of a Himalayan Monal doing a mating dance at Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary has went viral on social media and has left netizens mesmerised.

The intriguing video was shared by an IFS officer Parveen Kaswan with the caption, “But nobody can match #Colours of #Nature. Here a #Himalayan #Monal during a mating dance, considered as only footage of such courtship dance of Himalayan Monal in wild. Shot at Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary by staff. All this to attract a female for mating. Amazing nature.”

In the shared video, the male bird performs wing flaring, shoulder hunching and intricate dancing sequences to impress the female partner.

The Himalayan monal (Lophophorus impejanus), also known as the Impeyan monal and Impeyan pheasant, is a pheasant native to Himalayan forests and shrublands at elevations of 2,100-4,500 m (6,900-14,800 ft). It is part of the family Phasianidae and is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
