PFI Delhi chief, secretary arrested for hand in Delhi riots

New Delhi: Popular Front of India (PFI) Delhi chief Parvez Ahmed and Secretary Mohammad Iliyas were arrested by the Special Cell in connection with the Delhi riots.

Their role has also surfaced in the funding of the riots

“The duo has been arrested for their alleged role in instigating the people during the Delhi riots,” a senior official said here.

“Their role has also surfaced in the funding of the riots,” the officer said. Iliyas is a resident of Shiv Vihar, also contested in the 2020 Delhi Assembly polls from Karawal Nagar on a ticket from SDPI.

Home minister Amit Shah had stated on the floor of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday during his reply on a short duration discussion on Delhi riots that the investigating agencies would soon unravel the entire plot behind the riots. He also had indicated that soon the police would arrest those who were responsible for the brutal killing of IB official during the riots.

Both of the arrested PFI functionaries — Parvez and Illiyas are likely to be produced before Delhi’s Patiala House Court later.
