Islamic State Khorasan chief arrested in Afghanistan

New Delhi: A Pakistani national and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) chief, Aslam Faruqi, responsible for the recent Kabul terror attack on Sikhs, was arrested by Afghan security forces in a special operation on Saturday.

Farooqui, a Pakistani national, was earlier associated with proscribed Lashkar-e-Toiba

Afghan intelligence agency National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a release confirmed the arrest.

Farooqui, a Pakistani national, was earlier associated with proscribed Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Tehreek-e-Taliban terror outfits. In April 2019, he replaced Mawlawi Zia-ul-Haq aka Abu Omar Khorasani as the ISKP chief. His original name is Abdullah Urakzai and he hails from the tribal area of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The ISKP took responsibility for the suicide attack on a Kabul gurdwara in which 27 Sikhs were killed recently. A native of Kerala, who had fled India a few years ago to join the Islamic State, was one of the terrorists used for the attack.
