A senior police official said that two AK-47 rifles, two pistols, grenades and other ammunition were recovered from the neutralised terrorists.

In this operation, there was no collateral damage reported and none from security forces suffered any injury.

The police official said that the identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained but it is believed that both were local youth and affiliates of Pakistan based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

He said that on receiving information about presence of some terrorists in the area, a a joint team of Awantipora Police, Army’s 42 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation late on Monday night.

As the joint team of forces approached the spot where the terrorists were hiding, the terrorists opened fire, triggering an encounter.

Here it may be mentioned that the hiding terrorists were earlier asked to surrender but they refused and instead started firing at security forces.

Though the encounter has ended, search operation in the area continues, added the police official.
