Eight Police personnel killed during raid at history-sheeter’s house in Kanpur village

Kanpur: Eight police personnel, including a Deputy SP were killed and six cops injured when criminals fired upon a police team that had gone to raid an area in search of history-sheeter Vikas Dubey in wee hours of Friday.

According to reports, the the raid was carried out at around 1 am on the intervening night of July 2-3 in Bithoor’s Dikru village in Chaubepur police station area of Kanpur district.

Senior police officials including the SSP and IG had rushed to the spot immediately after the ambush to carry out the operation to nab the culprits.

According to latest reports, the police on early Friday morning killed at least three criminals believed to be Vikas dubey ‘s gang members . However, Dubey managed to give a slip and escape during an encounter in an area near the site where eight police personnel were martyred in an ambush.

Among the deceased included 1 DSP, 3 Sub-Inspector and 4 constables. The other four policemen, who received bullet shots and were injured in the ambush, were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical state.

Here it maybe mentioned that gangster Vikas Dubey was a listed history-sheeter. He is a native of Kanpur and is wanted in over 60 criminal cases registered against him.

A senior police official said that a police team had gone to nab history-sheeter Vikas Dubey, who has over 60 cases filed against him. As the police team approached the place where the criminal and his associates were hiding, a JCB machine was placed on the road to block movement was of police party. “As the policemen got down from their vehicles to remove the JCB machine, criminal Dubey’s men on the rooftop of a building, resorted to heavy firing, leaving Deputy SP Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables dead on the spot.

Immediately after the attack on the police team, all criminals managed to escape from the spot and fled into the nearby forested area.

The area was immediately cordoned off as the SSP Dinesh Kumar P, SP (West) Dr Anil Kumar along with other police personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation to nab the culprits.

Kanpur ADG JN Singh said, “Eight police personnel lost their lives after they were fired upon criminals when police team raided an area in Vikaru village in search of the history-sheeter.”

A civilian was also injured in the attack, said ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar, adding that few police weapons were also missing after the incident.

Sources said that more than 100 mobile phones people believed to be close to Vikas Dubey were being put on surveillance to nab the culprits and also to figure out as to who within the police set-up had possibly informed the criminal about the raids.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolence to the families of the eight police personnel who lost their lives after being fired upon by criminals in Kanpur.

He has directed DGP HC Awasthi to take strict action against criminals and has also sought report of the incident.

It may be mentioned here that Vikas Dubey, a notorious criminal, carries a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head.
