Major terror plot busted in Delhi as 5 terrorists arrested after encounter

New Delhi: A Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday arrested five terrorists following a brief encounter from Shakarpur area of New Delhi.

Weapons and other incriminating materials have been recovered from their possession

“The group affiliation of the arrested terrorists is yet to be ascertained,” said PS Kushwah, DCP Special Cell.

While three of the arrested terrorists hail from Jammu and Kashmir, the remaining two are from Punjab.

Delhi Police have identified them as Shabbir Ahmed, Ayub Pathan, Riyaz Rather, Gurjeet Singh and Sukhdeep Singh. One of them is also alleged to have been involved in the assassination of Shaurya Chakra winner Balwinder Singh in Punjab.

Reports stated that the terrorists were arrested after an exchange of gunfire with Special Cell police officers.

Weapons and other incriminating materials have been recovered from their possession, said an official.

The police is interrogating the arrested terrorists to reveal the intention for their presence in the national capital amid raging farmer agitation at the NCR borders.

The development comes almost 20 days after a team of Delhi Police busted a major terror plot and nabbed two Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists from Khan Market area of the national capital. The police had recovered two semi-automatic pistols along with 10 live cartridges have been recovered from them.
